Ensuring Equal Protection

Guernsey has an increasingly diverse workforce and community. Our anti-discrimination laws should reflect, protect and enable every islander. It is possible to ensure equality while not putting an undue burden on business. We should strive to achieve this balance.

If elected, I would support the implementation of phase two of the anti-discrimination law. Giving the following characteristics protected status:

• Sex

• Age

• Gender Reassignment

• Marital Status; and

• Pregnancy and Maternity.

I would also support exploring the need for a new, positive duty on employers to prevent sexual harassment in the workplace.
