ADDRESSING VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS

Addressing Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) and Other Gender-Based Issues

If elected, I would support the following measures:

1.) Establish a VAWG taskforce

To gather data on VAWG which will help shape government policy thereafter.

2.) Make CCTV mandatory in pubs, clubs and bars

To help prevent and prosecute cases of spiking, sexual harassment and assault.

3.) Pass the second phase of the anti-discrimination law

This will introduce sex as a protected characteristic.

I would also support exploring the need for a duty on employers to prevent sexual harassment in the workplace - a measure recently implemented in the UK.

4.) Improve Guernsey's parental leave policy

Guernsey has among the worst parental leave offerings in Europe.

Birth rates in Guernsey have declined by a third between 2014 and 2024. Improving our parental leave policy is an important part of reducing the barriers to having children in Guernsey.
